HydroGeo Builder FAQ

Below is a list of frequently asked questions for HydroGeo Builder. If you have a question that isn't listed here, please contact our technical support team ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

Q1: Can you create a project using decimal degrees for the coordinate system?

Answer:
Unfortunately, projects must be created using meters or feet as the units for the X and Y coordinates. You may consider creating your project in another coordinate system. You will be able to import data from a lat/long coordinate system. Hydro GeoBuilder will transform your data to the coordinate system of the project.

Q2: How is my project data saved?

Answer:
The project files are saved to a projectname.amd file. All the data imported and created in Hydro GeoBuilder is saved in the data repository folder; the folder name is the same as the project name.

Q3: How can I change the size of the conceptual model (CM) after it is created?

Answer:
Create a new polygon, or modify the polygon used to create the conceptual model then, create a new conceptual model with this polygon. You could also consider updating the existing conceptual model. Please be aware that there is no “live update” in Hydro GeoBuilder, so this means you need to re-generate your horizons, property zones, and simulation domain with boundary conditions.

Q4: What boundary conditions are supported for FEFLOW translation?

Answer:
Currently only recharge and pumping wells are supported.

Q5: What is the connection elevation?

Answer:
The connection elevation determines to which model layer(s) the boundary condition will be assigned. When assigning a river boundary condition, the river stage must be greater than the connection elevation. This is similar to a constant head boundary. The specified head must be above the connection elevation/ cell bottom.
