Professional Water Quality Reports in minutes, not hours!
AquaChem v.2010.1 Release

In a preliminary test by UK Environment Agency1, AquaChem demonstrated a 90% reduction in the time required to calculate Mann-Kendall trends for 200 parameters at 3000 wells.

AquaChem v.2010.1 Benefits:

  • Improve Efficiency: New batch processing mode quickly creates time series plots and water-quality trends for tens or hundreds of wells, with the click of a button.
  • Improve Performance: Many plot and diagram enhancements including new Stacked Bar Charts to display temporal changes of the ion balance of major ions.
  • Improve Quality of Reports and Presentations: New export to GoogleEarthTM format provides effective means of presenting and communicating results with your clients.
  • Increase Confidence: Improved handling of duplicate samples allows you to quickly and confidently find data anomalies.
  • Meet Regulatory Standards: Compare heavy metal concentrations to U.S. EPA Hardness-Dependent Standards, and report sample exceedences with confidence. The new Alert Levels Test will provide an early warning indicator of sites with concentrations that exceed background levels - something not possible with the use of guideline criteria alone.

“We expect a considerable saving in both cost and time from our use of the revamped trend analysis in AquaChem 2010. We need to carry out an annual check on trends in our groundwater chemical sampling network; the first time we did this, it took several weeks to check for trends across all sites and all chemicals. Now that AquaChem has the ability to perform batch trend analysis, we expect to be able to repeat this analysis literally overnight!” U.K. Environment Agency

Professionals use AquaChem to:

  • Analyze and report aqueous geochemistry of municipal groundwater supply wells
  • Report analytical lab results of samples from contaminated sites
  • Manage water quality data from sanitary landfill sites
  • Identify mineralization trends for mining exploration
  • Report water quality guideline exceedences

Sharing a Common SQL Server Database for Convenient Environmental Data Management

Did you know that you can directly link your Hydro GeoAnalyst station data with AquaChem for in-depth water quality analysis? This feature allows you to analyze water quality data in AquaChem and to launch the program directly from Hydro GeoAnalyst by selecting stations (or a station group) from your project, and then Water Quality Analysis from the Tools menu, and AquaChem will launch, with the selected stations.

Setting up an ODBC Connection for Hydro GeoAnalyst:

AquaChem and Hydro GeoAnalyst can communicate using an Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) connection which can be created From Administrative Tools. After launching the ODBC Data Source Administrator you can add a new SQL Server Data Source as shown below.

Image 1

After selecting “Finish”, in the Create a New Data Source to SQL Server, specify a Name, description and server for your Data Source. The server will be [host name]\[database] as indicated below:

Image 1

Follow the prompts to complete the setup.

Preparing Hydro GeoAnalyst to link with AquaChem:

In order to use the AquaChem (Water Quality Analysis) feature within Hydro GeoAnalyst, you must first have AquaChem installed on the local machine, and specify within Hydro GeoAnalyst where the application and project files are located as shown below:

Settings/User Preferences/General:

Image 1

Linking AquaChem’s database to Hydro GeoAnalyst

Once the ODBC has been created and Hydro GeoAnalyst configured, you will be able to link the HGA database to the AquaChem interface.

1) Launch AquaChem
2) Create a new empty AquaChem database.
3) From the main menu, select File \ Remote Database \ Link to Remote Database. The Link Tables window will appear and allow you to select the ODBC Data Source that you created previously, allowing you to link to tables from the remote database.

Once the database is selected, its corresponding server information will be shown in the Server and Database field.

Image 1

Now that you have established the link between the two programs close AquaChem.

Advanced Water Quality Analysis in Hydro GeoAnalyst

With your Hydro GeoAnalyst project open select the station(s) or station group that you wish to conduct the Water Quality Analysis on. With your selection active, go to Tools/Water Quality Analysis this will launch AquaChem.

Image 1

If you have highlighted specific stations, AquaChem will be filtered to display only the selected stations, whereas, if a station group is selected, all stations within that group will be visible when AquaChem has launched.

Image 1

You can now perform your analysis and create plots within AquaChem using the data from your Hydro GeoAnalyst stations.

Among the plots available within AquaChem, AquaChem 2010.1 now includes an improved Durov plot to show two additional parameters, e.g., pH, EC, TDS, on the same plot.

Image 1

AquaChem 2010.1 also includes a new Stacked Bar chart option, which allows anions/cations to be plotted side by side to provide an estimate of ion balance.

Image 1 Image 1

Please keep in mind that the following operations must be performed in HGA:

  • Creating or modifying parameters
  • Importing data
  • Creating new samples or modifying sample information
  • Creating new stations or modifying station information.
When paired with Hydro GeoAnalyst, AquaChem provides an efficient and comprehensive selection of analysis, calculation, modeling, and graphing tools for your water quality and groundwater sampling data.

1: Testimonial from UK Environment Agency Staff

See what people say about SWS:

“I have utilized Hydro GeoBuilder for two different projects. I am liking Hydro GeoBuilder because of its dual functionality (i.e. creating both Finite Difference and Finite Element meshes). It was easy to maneuver through the GUI. It is really nice to be able to build the conceptual model in 3D and then import it into the groundwater flow model. It makes modeling so much easier. Great job SWS!”
Robert Maric

“Thanks a million for your patience and help. With your input we got things running in a knick of time. Pass my thanks on the rest of the tech support team as well. They were most helpful at various stages of getting the software up and running.”
Rick Devlin

“A big thank you to {SWS Technical Support} for their friendly, prompt and accurate support yesterday and today. You guys saved my bacon, and I can't thank you enough!”
Isabelle

“Thanks for the excellent service. I am very pleased with the assistance received. Following the instructions given the project opened with out any problems.”
Lorna Jaramillo Nieves

“Our consulting firm manages large amounts of Environmental Data and we have found that HGA has become a valuable data management solution by saving us both time and money while ensuring the integrity and security of our data.”
Rob Maric

“Loved the training and software! I will be recommending it to my boss. I only wish I had it sooner.”
Rick Salness, P.G.

“The uninstall/re-install was successful in remediating the problem. We appreciate the prompt response and support. Thank you.”
Walter E. Kaeck

“Thank you so much for all your help. I appreciate your efforts to recover my project.”
Ryan Dunbar

“Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. What a professional staff! You guys are great. Look forward to doing more business with you.”
