Schlumberger Water Services Launches Diver-DCX
Extended communication capabilities using telemetry systems

Delft, Netherlands, July 16th, 2010 - Schlumberger Water Services (SWS) announced today the release of Diver-DCX* (Direct Communication eXchanger), a new component in the Diver-Suite* of groundwater monitoring systems that expands the communication format of Diver dataloggers to SDI-12 compatible telemetry systems. Diver-DCX provides new or existing customers with the ability to integrate Diver dataloggers into telemetry systems for effective real-time monitoring of municipal water supplies, industrial and contaminated sites, and water levels and quality at mine sites.

“Historically our customers were limited to retrieving datalogger data at the well site using cables or within close vicinity using short-range wireless systems”, said Martin Draeger, Marketing Manager SWS. “With the release of Diver-DCX, groundwater data can now be transmitted globally through our SDI-12 compatible telemetry system, giving groundwater suppliers instant access to detailed groundwater data with the click of a button. The result is significant cost and time savings over manual data collection.”

Diver-DCX features a built-in pressure sensor for automatically compensating water levels to the effects of atmospheric pressure, reducing the need for manual post-processing. The robust compact housing is waterresistant and is powered by an external source (no internal battery is required). This allows for flexible installation inside the well casing, translating to long-term, reliable operation. Diver-DCX is CE Certified and is compliant with the SDI-12 standard for environmental data acquisition.

Schlumberger Water Services Launches AquaChem 2010.1
A Professional Application for Water Quality Data Analysis, Plotting, Reporting, and Modeling

WATERLOO, Canada, March 26th, 2010 - Schlumberger Water Services (SWS) announced today the release of AquaChem* 2010 water data analysis software. This latest release will improve the way geochemists, environmental consultants, and government agencies interpret water quality data that influence decisions in the management of municipal water resources, mine water quality, contaminated sites, and oilfield water supply and disposal.

Based on Microsoft AccessTM database structure, and now compatible with a Hydro GeoAnalyst* SQL ServerTM database, AquaChem 2010 offers a batch processing mode for plots and Mann-Kendall Trends that will significantly reduce the time required to analyze changes in water quality at multiple sites. These improved Quality Assurance and Quality Control tools will facilitate interpretation of duplicate samples and provide a means to detect sites with concentrations above background levels - something not possible with the use of guideline criteria alone. The new plot features will present data in new styles and formats, allow for correlation of hydrographs to field/lab samples, and generate higher resolution reports.

“In every water quality monitoring program, the question of whether contaminant concentrations are increasing or decreasing is fundamental,” said Martin Draeger, marketing manager SWS. “The enhancements in AquaChem 2010 will allow our customers to more quickly analyze, plot, and report trends in concentrations, whether it’s for tens or thousands of samples.”

In a preliminary test by UK Environment Agency1, AquaChem demonstrated a 90% reduction in the time
required to calculate Mann-Kendall trends for 200 parameters at 3000 wells, with samples dating back to 1996.

Schlumberger Water Services Launches New CTD-Diver
Compact and reliable groundwater datalogger offers improved performance and durability.

Delft, Netherlands, March 26th, 2010 - Schlumberger Water Services (SWS) announced today the release of the new CTD-Diver* groundwater datalogger, which is engineered to further improve groundwater monitoring of municipal groundwater supplies, saltwater intrusion, injected wastewater, and water levels and tailings migration at mine sites.

“CTD-Diver has an improved compact ceramic housing that will provide increased reliability when monitoring corrosive, high-salinity waters”, said Martin Draeger, marketing manager SWS. “The expanded non-volatile memory will allow our customers to record more measurements, and the ceramic sensor provides a greater conductivity range with higher accuracy.”

An independent testing organization awarded CTD-Diver with CE marking for European Union (EU) standards, and CE Design Award, following successful completion of a series of extensive field and laboratory tests.

CTD-Diver is integrated with field data acquisition accessories and easy-to-use desktop software, and is part of the Diver-Suite of dataloggers and Diver-NETZ wireless groundwater monitoring system.

Schlumberger Water Services Launches Hydro GeoBuilder
A flexible simulator-independent conceptual modeling environment

WATERLOO, Canada, October 15, 2009 - Schlumberger Water Services (SWS) announced today the release of Hydro GeoBuilder* 2009.1 hydrogeologic conceptual modeling software, developed to advance the process of building and evaluating groundwater flow models.

Compatible with the industry standard USGS MODFLOW modeling code, Visual MODFLOW Premium* and
FEFLOWTM, the Hydro GeoBuilder software offers modeling professionals an expanded workbench of two- and three-dimensional tools for conceptualizing the hydrogeologic environment, in addition to increased flexibility for assigning model properties independent of the finite difference grid or finite element mesh.

“The fundamental principle behind Hydro GeoBuilder is its power to seamlessly shorten the gap between
working with GIS and borehole data and building the numerical model,” said Martin Draeger, marketing
manager for SWS. “By maximizing the amount of readily-available data and building the model independently from the grid or mesh, our customers will gain an in-depth understanding of their groundwater flow system at the beginning, while saving considerably more time calibrating the model at the end.”

With the Hydro GeoBuilder software, users will be able to:

  • Improve Efficiency by maximizing the use of existing GIS data and incorporate physical geology and geographic conditions into the conceptual model before designing the grid or mesh; automatically generate complex model layers from the conceptual model structure; and modify the grid or mesh, or easily change simulators to meet demanding project objectives.

  • Improve Quality by generating multiple numerical models from the same conceptual model – ideal for comparing a variety of grid or mesh discretizations for uncertainty analysis. In addition, visual tools can be used to compare raw field/borehole data to the resulting grid/mesh layers, giving confidence in the quality of the numerical model input. One can load simulation results (heads, drawdown, and pathlines) and correlate to the conceptual model and grid/mesh.

  • Improve Physical Definition by defining pinchouts and lenses using shapes and surfaces and automatically convert to the appropriate grid cells or finite elements; design local grids around the area of interest for simulation using MODFLOW-LGR (Local Grid Refinement); and define one or more finite element models on local or regional scales.

Working within a dynamic, multi-view, and grid/mesh-independent environment, the Hydro GeoBuilder software delivers the functionality and flexibility to improve the quality and credibility of your numerical model.
